The number seven has religious significance in Judaism, e.g., the six days of Creation plus the seventh day of rest, the six working days in the week plus Shabbat, the Seven Spirits of G-d, One idea is that a six-pointed star receives form and substance from its solid center. This inner core represents the spiritual dimension, surrounded by the six universal directions. (A similar idea applies to Shabbat -- the seventh day which gives balance and perspective to the six weekdays. Another point of view is that Judaism understands the Star/Shield of David as equating with the number seven, that is, the six points plus the center. The six points of the Star of David symbolize G-d's rule over the universe in all six directions: north, south, east, west, up and down. Also, the menorah whose seven oil lamps rest on three stems branching from each side of a central pole.
