JEWISH WEDDING COLLECTION

The ceremony takes place under a Chuppah or wedding canopy. During the marriage ceremony, the ketubah (Hebrew marriage contact) is read and rings are exchanged. The ketubah has been a tradition since ancient times.  At the very end of the ceremony, a glass is placed on the floor, and the groom shatters it with his foot. This act serves as an expression of sadness at the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem, and identifies the couple with the spiritual and national destiny of the Jewish people. A Jew, even at the moment of greatest rejoicing, is always mindful of the Psalmist's injunction to "set Jerusalem above my highest joy." With this breaking of the glass, the crowd shouts "Mazel Tov!" which then completes the ceremony.

A wedding or anniversary is a wonderful opportunity for giving Jewish ritual objects!  By using beautiful Jewish ceremonial objects a new couple demonstrates how important their Judaism is to them.

Have you seen the collection of groom’s glasses?  We don’t want to brag; however our selection is second to none.  Most of our custom bags are made from silk that has been embellished with embroidery, lace and beads.  We have bags that will coordinate for black and white weddings, the hot new “chocolate” wedding theme, ivory and white each adorned with a Judaic symbol and that holds a clear wedding flute. We work closely with one of the leading Bridal houses in the industry and they make bags that are just stunning!  Not only to we carry beautiful bags, but a varied assortment of colored glasses that cover the gamut from our most popular and traditional color of cobalt to gunmetal and gold. Rosenthal, Shardz, Mazel Tov products and others are represented in the mix.

Breaking the glass at a Jewish Wedding is something everyone seems to look forward to (even the non-Jews at the wedding!)  The groom slams his heal down and a “loud pop” along with the words Mazel Tov! are shouted.  Yes, it’s official.  But now what to do with the broken glass you ask?  Plenty is our answer at Judaica Specialties. By far one of the most popular of wedding gifts is a ritual piece from the glassmakers at Shardz.  The couple will have a treasured keepsake for a lifetime, by encapsulating the broken glass from the wedding into a mezuzah case, a kiddush cup, a menorah, candleholders or a frame. You need to be patient, since some of the most custom options can take up to four months to be completed.

Gary Rosenthal, a master with metal offers a more contemporary take with his collection; all offering immediate gratification.  His collection includes all pieces that you do yourself.  Very quick, very easy and you’re done.  You fill the tube with your shards and you have a memorable keepsake.  Other artists including Tamara Baskin, Sarah Beames and Susan Fullenbaum offer “do it yourself” versions of wedding mezuzahs as well.

We have whimsical gifts, classic candleholders, frames, albums and exquisite menorahs and Seder plate sets.
